The modern shipping container has come to deliver the unexpected. Each shipment it carries links distant landscapes, cultures, communities, economies and political systems. The use of these peripatetic parcels pulls people, places and spaces closer together through the seemingly benign global transport of goods and are the basis of our globally interconnected economy. Yet their role and impact are not always apparent.
My practice-led research is an inquiry into the impact of shipping container use and the chance connections and inadvertent ramifications made by the cargo it moves. The creative works shown in this digital platform aim to identify and articulate the impact of the freight container on people, places, communities and culture, as a result of the global movement and exchange it affords.
